Community Highlights – CPSO eDialogue Interview with Dr. Saroo Sharda
This week, we would like to highlight a recent CPSO eDialogue interview with Dr. Saroo Sharda, where she discusses the importance of compassionate, patient-informed care and a trauma-informed approach to help build trust between patients and healthcare providers.
With a discussion on systemic issues in the healthcare system, intersectionality, and ableism, Dr. Sharda provides an insightful conversation about the changes in attitudes needed amongst healthcare providers, especially when providing care to people with disabilities.
Dr. Saroo Sharda is the Associate Dean of Equity and Inclusion for the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University and the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lead at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Being an anesthesiologist herself, Dr. Sharda is also an assistant clinical professor of anesthesia at McMaster University, an educator, writer and trained creative writing coach. With an extensive expertise on equity and antiracism, Dr. Sharda has presented several keynotes on the subject of EDI and antiracism in the context of healthcare, medical education and professional regulation across several organizations and conferences nationally and internationally.
