In Memory of Dr. George Gerula
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Dr. George Gerula on August 30, 2024, at the age of 87. Dr. Gerula was a beloved member of our anesthesia community for many years, known for his dedication and expertise.
Dr. Gerula was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and graduated from Queen’s University Medical School in 1963. He joined the Anesthesia staff at Hamilton General Hospital in 1972, where he made significant contributions throughout his career until his retirement in 2000.
Dr. Gerula was instrumental in adopting advancements in anesthesia and critical care medicine during his time. He will be remembered for his preference for classic anesthesia techniques, as well as his unwavering commitment to patient care and safety.
He is survived by his wife Alida, daughters Agatha and Anne, sons John and Nathaniel, sister Gloria, niece Synthia, and nephews Shawn and Brent. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family.
Dr. Gerula’s legacy will forever remain a part of our department.
